This weeks forum was about looking at our own practice away from the photography genre to the wider visual arts & beyond & how our own work may be consumed or considered for use.
While there was no one style or one person/artist that springs to mind in terms of what ‘talks to me as art’ I decided to look at film videography.
As discussed in this weeks presentation it can be argued that film represents the past in that it represents the instant of the timeline it was filmed in but film can also carry you away in a swirl of emotion, set a mood, tell a story & this is the element I’d like to capture in my images.
In particular, I think of travel/lifestyle vloggers, they get to evoke all this in short, emotive videos, they are designed to put you in the picture to make it more personal, they are the masters of escapism. The displayed video I have chosen to share is made by “Beautiful Destinations” a company that claims to be the ‘largest travel community on social media’ & who have a ‘mission to celebrate the beauty of the world and its amazing people, places and experiences’. Their style shows flawless execution, slow-motion pans, time-lapse shots, overhead drone shots & seamless transitions all with the aim to capture our attention.
